Hello, I’m 0CK, standing for 0th culture kid. In my head I’m verbalizing it by letters “Oh-Cee-Kay.” I’m not using this name on any other websites yet.
I’m interested in how people can be different. You can expect me to post about identical twins, culture shock, weird cognitive practice and benign mental conditions. Maybe humor and friendship. I don’t ever mean to sterilize the world with insight, I intend to balance my posts to be a little more enchanting than disenchanting.
My username is a turn on the phrase “third culture kid” which refers to a kid raised by parents from one culture, while otherwise immersed in another culture. Originally “third culture” part of the term referred to the culture that grows at the interface between two cultures. So when missionaries, immigrants, embassies, militaries and corporations raise kids in a deliberate microcosm of their home culture abridged to meet their host culture halfway, they are raising “third culture” kids. More recently the term has broadened to suggest that those raised between cultures or amid culture shock all have a strange kinship or even belong to a shared “third culture” born from their distinct but parallel experience.
I intend “0th culture kid” to refer to anyone successfully socialized to less than one culture. I am interested in comparing my fellow 0th culture kids to each other, and to 3rd culture kids. I am interested in other types of fish-out-of-water as well, like those raised by insular religious movements.
I found it when I saw your posts on Chuds.life.
