Does anybody else feel like when you enter a normie website everything is just astroturfed garbage?
you peel just one layer and everything is just crawling with bots/ai slop and google search is basically unusable, I’ve been trying to find alternative sites and places to connect with actual human beings but every time the only thing I find is microblogging pages that get updated once a year at most and sites that don’t have a single real human being using them, this has me genuinely wondering what percentage of the internet is just a psyop to control the human population
I don’t believe the Dead Internet Theory, but the internet is so fucking bad that I had to start this forum just to get something usable.
Right now social media is collapsing (or at least hemorrhaging).
AI is cancer by default. That plus heuristics like upvotes and follower counts ensure that there is no intellectual space. It’s just a bunch of e-celebs with boring ass takes that appeal to the lowest common denominator.
what do you actually think will be the end result of this?
Long term? I think the non-NPC’s will go back to stuff like forums and indie websites. How else are you supposed to use the internet? Websites like YouTube are simply unusable.
Obviously, the determining factors are network effects and Zipf’s Principle of Least Effort. This is basically the principle that all life forms try to minimize their total average work.
I believe the internet is largely dead and it makes me sad. There is no way to know if you are having a discussion with a person or a bot, there is are few ways to communicate on the internet anonymously. It’s a shame though because the internet has largely replaced in person social/intellectual forums.
This is unfortunate because it’s atomized politics. 300 people who share your views and wishes in a whole nation state is nothing, in a town, that’s a substantial amount of people who could accomplish a lot if they choose to organize.
This is probably a very disjointed and incoherent reply but truth is i’m a bit high and the state of the internet I find, frankly, very grim. I hate to be the guy that’s like “this is literally 1984” but society seems to just freely consent to increasingly losing privacy and being subject so surveillance and data harvesting.
Everyone is stuck on shit sites knowing they’ve been totally astroturfed, propagandized, and they increasing restrict wrongthink, yet nobody has anywhere else to go. I really admire this website as an attempt to move beyond our current shit paradigm.
I used to think that there was no issue with this blending of educational content with entertainment, but I now find this just makes it harder to distinguish educational content from advertisement. I cannot tell ads from genuine content. It really is demoralizing.
