Japanese dining prices

I notice that Japanese eating establishments charge next to nothing for food.

I don’t think that this is just because of Japanese wages or their efficient supply chain. It seems that the pricing strategy is based on cash flow rather than squeezing as much money out of the customer as possible.

When you live in an atomized society where people are migrating constantly, it makes more sense to charge as much money as possible. But when people don’t really change their habits, you want to lock them into a routine where they buy the same dish repeatedly, as many times as possible.

Even leftists have picked up on this. Of course, they blame it on racism.

This process of atomization → higher prices is an example of what’s called touristification.

They care about their neighbors. They don’t want to take advantage of each other. They behave this way in other spheres of life as well.

I think Japanese wages are also pretty low so they have to price that in.
And I saw a video before explaining that there’s some unspoken rules in Japan, that charging more than X thousand yen for a bowl of ramen is seen as greedy and in poor taste and will make people avoid your restaurant.
