That’s upsetting. The Ren fair used to be something really pure to me and all the kids I grew up with. It’s just sad that this rot has eroded pretty much everything in society.
The Ren faire near me has slowly devolved from something resembling medieval LARP to like a DnD con. I think that’s definitely apart of it. Way different crowd when people are dressing up as knights and peasants than when they waddle in as fat deities and witches and the like.
The circus, yeah. That’s kinda a well known trope though. A traveling gang of fuckups and oddities isn’t the best place to be raised. Do people “grow up” in Ren faires, though? Aren’t they just pop up or yearly conventions? They don’t travel around with a set group, I don’t think?
Like I don’t think people grow up in comicons either, but I couldn’t imagine being raised by some quirk chungus millennial whore who hit multiple cons a year. Terrifying thought.
