One of the strangest realizations that I’ve had about these people is that they actually harbor secret conservative views. If there’s anything a leftist or liberal wants, it’s an authentic, enracinated society with a strong sense of social cohesion. They actually do want to become part of something bigger than themselves, that’s older than themselves, that stands for something. Notice that they are obsessed with faux vintage, community gardens, local dairy, little free libraries, etc.
However, these people also hate the culture that they grew up in, and they have anti-normative opinions. Which is ironic, because the things that they criticize were actually created by globalism, liberalism, and multiculturalism. They hate the suburbs, they hate car culture, they hate nuclear families, etc. All of these things are bad, and it is fair to criticize capitalism for them, but nobody wants to talk about the other factors.
Also, clearly Kaczynski was right when he said that progress makes them miserable. Larping as a soda jerk from the 1950’s is mentally insane.
